THE SKYRRUP STORY
The story began when Mr S N Dwivedi, Founder Chairman & MD of Elcomponics Group, went to Iceland on a family vacation. As he toured a local market in Reykjavik, he encountered the healthy deliciousness that is skyr. It was love at first bite and his curiosity was piqued. Mr Jon Tryggvason, an Icelandic Filmmaker and Entrepreneur, was instrumental in helping him explore this healthy secret of Vikings.
TRADITION
Our skyr is made using live Icelandic cultures that date back to Viking times, around 874 A.D. This traditional Icelandic dairy product has been part of Iceland’s cuisine for centuries. Prepared by ancient techniques – and a lot of patience – our skyr is naturally thick and creamy. Protein-rich and stable enough to accompany Vikings on their long journeys, it was an essential provision.
CREATION
Prepared from fresh A2 milk from a mix of Indian cows (Gir, Sahiwal or Tharparkar) and live Icelandic cultures. The fresh milk is sourced directly from the gaushaala which makes our skyr delicious and nutritious. The creamy and high protein properties make it seem like yogurt, but it isn’t. It is thicker and more densely concentrated, without any thickener or filler. To make 1 cup of Skyrrup, nearly 4 cups of skimmed milk are used – which explains its rich mouthfeel.
